High-end elliptical trainers come with a built-in warm-up and cool down system, which prevents injuries to your joints and muscles. A good warm-up is essential to any kind of training, because you will get better results if your muscles are prepared for the stress that’s about to be applied on them. The cool down simply protects you from injuring yourself while suddenly stopping from your workout.
Just like in the case of treadmills, most ellipticals have an electronic console that shows some basic but useful things like: time, calorie burn, pulse rate (if you have a heart-belt attached to the machine or if the handles have a special sensor that measures your pulse), distance or incline rate, if any. Of course not all machines provide these measurements, but you should look for the ones that show the exact information that you need. For example if you are a busy person, a console showing you the time could be useful. If you have cardiovascular problems, make sure your elliptical has a heart rate monitor and additionally, that it has a built-in system that adjusts the speed of the machine to your heart rate. A calorie burnout counter is extremely useful if you are training to lose some weight.
