Treadmills Vs. Elipticals

If you ever felt the need to exercise but didn’t know what equipment is best suited for you, don’t worry; we all had the same doubts. Basically, you will have a lot of choices regarding home training, but some of the exercise machines have really stood out of the crowd in the last few years. When it comes to home workout, the two market leaders are treadmills and ellipticals. Let’s see what their strengths and weaknesses are, in a heads-on comparison between the two.

Both machines concentrate on two different actions: losing weight and keeping your muscles fortified. However, while treadmills focus on your lower body, elliptical trainers will work both lower and upper parts, because of their mobile arm handles. That’s one point for ellipticals.

Although both exercise machines (in their modern versions of course) have several options to increase difficulty, treadmills get the edge on this. Treadmills can be set on an inclined angle, they support several speeds for their walking deck and they can be set to gradually increase or decrease speed according to your heart rate, in case you have attached a heart rate monitor. Ellipticals can only be set to increase or decrease speed and some of them have cooldown systems for when you finish training. Still not enough though: one point for treadmills.
